POWERFUL CHOICES

Energy issues in our modern world can be quite complicated, but how a coop should operate in the community it serves is really quite simple. You don’t need to be an electrical engineer to know that Kaua`i Island Utility Cooperative should be actively taking direction from it’s members, and working for the betterment of our community.  The Seven Cooperative Principles support this, and Kaua`i deserves nothing less.

The existing leadership team at KIUC has an apparent attitude of disdain for the community and the coop membership. “Effing Clueless” is how we were all recently described at a KIUC ‘orientation’ meeting. This harsh language was not merely a slip of the lip.  It is indicative of a perspective within the upper echelon of KIUC that has no desire for a genuine partnership with community.  For the betterment of our island community and our energy coop, this needs to change. Your votes for community voices in this board of director election can help make it happen.

This year the election for the KIUC Board of Directors offers you a powerful choice.

You can vote to maintain the top-down “we know what’s best for you” style of incumbent Directors which insulates KIUC management from community concerns and voices. Or your votes can help usher in a breath of fresh air and new era of cooperative decision making at KIUC. One where the talented professional staff of our outstanding utility take strong direction from our engaged community.

The choice is up to you.
